Amway Officals Arrested in India

Alticor Amway HQ bannerADA Township, Mich. – Arrests of 3 high-ranking directors of Amway India occurred on Monday.

The Times of India reported that William Pickney, CEO and managing director was among those arrests on complaints stemming from 2011 that accused the company of running a pyramid-type operation and selling overpriced products to customers. The court granted bail on Tuesday afternoon.

Amway released a statement saying that they are surprised by the arrests because the company had not received any summons or requests from officials. They will provide full cooperation with the investigation to resolve the situation.

“We are doing all we can to support the employees who have been arrested, and their families, during this difficult time,” said Todd Woodward, vice president for corporate communications. “Amway India is operating in full compliance with the law. We will continue to advocate for opportunity for our Amway business owners, many of whom depend upon this business for needed income.”

Amway India has more than 500 employees. 90 percent of their products that are sold in India are locally manufactured.  The company also recently announced the of groundbreaking of a $95 million manufacturing facility that is set to be complete in 2015.
