puppies 2CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich.–Dogs and cats at the animal shelter in Battle creek have been in desperate need of food.

Staffers at the Calhoun County Animal Center, located at 165 S Union Street, had an extremely low supply of donations

Staffers turned to Facebook in hopes of getting some donations.

“PLEASE HELP US,  We lost the connection that we had for donated food : ( As it currently stands, we do not have one bag of dog food, puppy food, or kitten food in our entire shelter! “ was posted on Wednesday on the Center’s Facebook page.

Shortly after the post, dozens of messages poured in from West Michigan animal lovers asking how they could help.

“Passing the word to coworkers at State Farm. Will be stopping by this weekend while I’m in the area to bring donations!!” writes one poster.

The donations came into the shelter quickly. Something the staff and animals are thankful for.

“I am truly humbled by the outpouring of generosity from our community, both near and far. To have received such caring from pet lovers everywhere is amazing. The donations of food and monetary support are far beyond what we had hoped for. Thank you so sincerely from all the four and two footed friends here at Calhoun County Animal Center, Inc,” writes Cynthia J. Buford/ CEO.
