SOUTHGATE, Mich- More than 2 months after a 13-year-old boy committed suicide at Davidson Middle School, his photo has been left out of the yearbook.

WJBK reports that the district has been helping students cope over the past few months since Tyler Nichols’ death,  but friends and family think that erasing him from the yearbook is just a step too far. “It’s almost like they want to forget he existed, and that makes me sad,” said Tyler’s mother, Ann Nichols.

Ann claims that Davidson Middle School never told her that her son would be omitted from the yearbook. In fact, she said a teacher mentioned the school might put together a tribute page for Tyler.

The district superintendent told WJBK that the yearbook was sent off to be printed in early March, before Tyler passed away, and that they didn’t have a photo of him.

However, his mother said he did take a picture that year because he had a new student identification card.

The district plans to meet with Tyler’s mother about this matter.
