KENT COUNTY, Mich – A fiery two vehicle crash involving a semi truck forced the closure of a busy roadway near Lowell this morning.

Kent County Sheriff’s Deputies say a car traveling northbound on Alden Nash north of the Grand River crossed the center line, colliding with a semi truck and trailer heading southbound.  The collision ruptured the semi truck’s gas tank causing the cab to burst into flames.

The driver of the semi truck, identified as 33-year-old Daren Galinis of Wyoming, was able to escape the fire without harm.

The driver of the car, identified as 23-year-old Christina Thompson of Jackson, was transported to Spectrum Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

The crash also caused diesel fuel to spill into the roadway, which crews spent a majority of the morning cleaning up.  A detour was established onto Segwun Avenue and Lowell View until the cleanup is complete, which was expected to take between 5 and 6 hours.
