GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The 2014 budget was approved by the Grand Rapids Downtown Development Authority, Wednesday morning.

It must now head to the Grand Rapids City Commission for adoption.

The DDA’s executive director, Kris Larson, said the $8.1 million dollar budget will go towards promoting business development, building and maintaining infrastructure, and enhancing the overall experience for people who frequent downtown.

Here’s a breakdown of how the board plans to spend some of the money:

  • About $585,000 allocated to urban planning
  • About $1.2 million allocated to mobility and transit
  • About $1.4 million allocated to incentives and support for new development
  • Another $2.1 million allocated to general public infrastructure, riverwalk repairs, and streetscape improvements

The DDA plans to send the proposed budget to city commission on June 18th. If it is approved, the DDA may officially adopt the budget at its next board meeting in July.
