SHELBYVILLE, Mich.– The smile on Elwin Culver’s face was priceless as he sat in his newly restored 1957 Chevy on Sunday, but the road to get that front seat was a long one.

Culver bought the car five years ago, he was hoping to restore it.  A year after he purchased the Chevy he was diagnosed with cancer and over the years it has only gotten worse. Earlier this year Culver’s sons went to Brady and Nelz Montague who own B&B Body Shop in Shelbyville and with their help they fully restored the classic car. His sons helped pay for all the parts and the Montague’s completely donated their time and talent over the past four months to finish it.

On Father’s day, Culver got to see his newly restored car for the first time and it nearly brought him to tears.

“I look at the work that friends and family have put in on it and it’s just more than a car. It means a lot, I don’t think I can explain it beyond that,” he said.
