MILKY WAY — (FOX 17) — Each month in this space, I discuss some of the sights you can see in the nighttime sky. This information is provided by Indiana University.

PLANETS: Very bright Venus will appear low in the western sky about 30 minutes after sunset and move southward along the horizon as the month progresses. Meanwhile,  Saturn will appear about halfway up the southwestern sky. It will be visible as darkness falls and sets around midnight. Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, will be above Saturn on July 1 and July 17 and below it on the 9th and the 25th. The Red Planet of Mars, as well as the bright planet Jupiter, will be visible in the morning sky and right next to each other on the 22nd. Look in the east-northeast sky. By the end of the month, Mercury will join Mars and Jupiter in the morning sky.

METEOR SHOWER:  The Delta Aquarid meteor shower peaks before sunrise on July 30, though some shooting stars will be visible for a few days on either side of the peak. The meteors could appear anywhere but most will be in the southern sky.

MOON PHASES: The new moon is on July 8, followed by the first quarter on the 15th. The full moon this month is on the 22nd, and the last quarter occurs on the 29th.
