BROOKLYN, Mich.- A health warning has been issued after more than a dozen people got sick after competing in the Tough Mudderevent June 29 and 30 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.

The Lenawee County Health Department is investigating what made several workers, participants and spectators ill.  They say it could be norovirus.

There were 16,000 participants and 6,000 spectators at the event, many from West Michigan.

“I just began to feel fatigued, didn`t really think much of it, by 6 p.m. I knew I was quite sick.” Participant Joshua Hansen recalls Sunday night, saying he then went to the emergency room.

Hanson was one of many who experienced nausea, vomiting and other unpleasantries after Tough Mudder.

Tough Mudder released a statement to Fox 17 following our investigation.  It read:

“We are aware that some Tough Mudder Michigan 2013 participants have been experiencing flu-like symptoms in the past few days. We are working closely with the Michigan Department of Community Health to identify the source of the problem. In the meantime, we urge anyone who may be experiencing flu-like symptoms to see their doctor.”
