GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — An upper-level low will continue to be a nuisance for the West Michigan weather forecast, generating isolated showers and thunderstorms again during the day Wednesday.

Some widely scattered, but heavy, showers had already popped up in spots Wednesday morning.  However, as skies become partly sunny, the heat of the day will provide a better opportunity for stronger storms to develop in the afternoon into the early evening.

High temperatures will end up closer to 80° Wednesday after only reaching 71° in Grand Rapids Tuesday, the coolest high temperature in July since July 19, 2009.

For Independence Day, it appears that we will manage to slide into a pocket of dry conditions despite the continued presence of that same low-pressure system.  That means that we expect no natural fireworks to go along with the big displays Thursday night.

A few pop-up storms are possible again Friday, with warm and humid air continuing to move into the region over the weekend.
