IONIA, Mich., — Robin Coon and her three sisters have teamed up to pay tribute to their mother while paying it forward.
A year after losing their mother to cancer, they’ve launched a non-profit fund called “Pop Bottles for patients”. The goal is to help ease the financial burden for low-income cancer and critical care patients who are fighting for their lives.
Coon explained her mother passed suddenly and did not have any healthcare at the time.
“We had all decided, hey, we want to do something to help others who are in her situation,” Coon told FOX 17 News. “There are just so many people out there who are kind of under the radar… and they need help.”
Coon, along with her three sisters are collecting pop cans and bottles to raise money. They plan to distribute funds as needed to people who apply for assistance. The money may be used for a variety of reasons, including gas money to get to appointments, medications, co-pays and bills while terminally ill.
The sisters are holding a “Bottle Scurfing” event next week at the Ionia Free Fair Grounds to help get the fund off the ground. From July 8th through July 13th they will be collecting cans, bottles and cash donations from 11 a.m -7 p.m.
