MUSKEGON, Mich. — Muskegon woman Julia Charlene Merfield, 21, pleaded guilty June 28 to soliciting the murder of her 27-year-old husband.

Fox 17 obtained video of the encounter, where Merfield talked with a man in April more than once that she believed to be a hit man.  She later learned that the man was an active undercover police officer, and was taken into custody.

Merfield’s husband asked that Chief Muskegon County Circuit Judge William C. Mariett sentence her to no jail time, but Mariett said she will get at least six years when she is sentenced July 30.

Part 2:

In Merfeld’s second meeting with the undercover officer, they talk more at length about how she wants him to kill her husband, and she pays him $100 as a down payment.

“When I first decided to do this, it’s not that we weren’t getting along,” she says in the video. “As terrible as it sounds, it was easier than divorcing him. I didn’t have to worry about the judgment of my family, I didn’t have to worry about breaking his heart.”
