WEST MICHIGAN — It’s no secret…it’s hot! Combine the moisture in the air with the actual air temperature and you get something called the heat index…or how it feels on our skin. Those feels-like temps pushed well in to the triple digits in some locations across West Michigan on Tuesday…and we still have Wednesday and Thursday to go with heat advisories already posted.

Thus far, Grand Rapids has recorded a 91 degree temperature on Sunday, 95 on Monday (which tied a record), and 93 on Tuesday (the record was 97 set back in the heat wave of 2012). The forecast calls for a high of 94 on Wednesday and 92 on Thursday. Friday will still be hot and humid with temps in the upper 80s/near 90, but a much better chance of thunderstorms coming in as a cold front slams in to Michigan and our warm, humid air mass. In fact, Michigan is in a slight risk for some severe storms on Friday with the arrival/passage of a cold front.

The highest heat index was recorded in Wheeler at 108 degrees. Saranac, Perrinton, and Waverly recorded 107 degrees, while Mount Pleasant, Ada, and Bradley were 105 degrees. Even the big cities like Holland and Grand Rapids experienced heat indices around 100 degrees. Click herefor the complete list from the National Weather Service.

The good news is…a cooler/drier air mass will filter in for us on Saturday and Sunday. Get the complete West Michigan forecast at www.fox17online.com/weather.
