GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The National Weather Service has posted a Heat Advisory that will remain in effect for the majority of West Michigan through the middle of the week as highs in the 90s will continue.

Monday’s high temperature in Grand Rapids reached 95°, tying a record most recently set back in 2006.  The forecast for the next two days is for 94°, with heat index values that will approach 100° at times in the afternoon.

With a light breeze coming off of Lake Michigan, the lakeshore will be the best place to find relief as temperatures run a few degrees cooler and with water temperatures near 70° at the beaches.

Inland, a few thunderstorms may develop in the afternoon mainly east of U.S. 131.  Like Monday, storms will be slow-moving and may produce a few heavy downpours before diminishing in the evening.  Much of West Michigan will still remain dry throughout the day Tuesday.

Heat and humidity will remain in place through the remainder of the week before a cold front arrives late Friday.
