Motor Scooter Rider Crashes on Highway; Alcohol a Factor

scooter crashGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A man riding on a 2006 Baja motor scooter suffered critical injuries after crashing on I-196 near US-131 late Tuesday night.

Police say 47-year-old Bruce Ratcliff of Grand Rapids was riding his scooter when he left the ramp from southbound US-131 to eastbound I-96.  He struck a guard rail and sign post, and was thrown from his scooter.  He was not wearing his helmet, and was rushed to the hospital where he was last listed in critical condition.

According to Michigan State Police, alcohol was a factor in this crash.

    Good. Roads are for cars not bikes, scooters and drunks.
