storm damageROCKFORD, Mich. — Thousands in West Michigan are waking up to some damage or no power Thursday morning after a line of storms moved through overnight. The hardest hit areas are Muskegon and Kent counties.

It’s believed lightning and wind caused some trees to fall on homes, wires, and roads.

One homeowner in Rockford said a tree fell on some cable and electric wires attached to his house around midnight and started smoking. That man and his family woke to popping sounds coming from their appliances.

Firefighters pulled insulation out of the attic to make sure it wouldn’t spark. No one was hurt.

And lightning might be to blame for a house fire on Nelson Drive in Georgetown Township. Flames could be seen coming from the roof.

According to the Consumers Energy Outage Map, thousands of people, mostly in Muskegon and Kent Counties, were without power early Thursday morning.
