KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Police in Kalamazoo released documents that reveal what happened before and during a double-murder suicide. The tragedy was discovered July 15th.

The victims were Lisa Herrera-Gleason and her 17-month-old son Matthew. Police said Patrick Gleason (the father and husband) shot them and then turned the gun on himself.

Family said there were no signs of marital distress. However,  the investigative report indicates that one friend of Lisa Herrera-Gleason revealed to police that Mrs. Gleason confided in her. According to the friend, Mrs. Gleason said that Patrick Gleason had become addicted to some type of medication, and when he couldn’t get a hold of the drug he’d get very angry. The friend couldn’t remember what drug.

In mid-July, Mrs. Gleason’s family told police that they hadn’t heard from their daughter in about a week. So police did a welfare check and found Patrick Gleason had killed his wife and son.
According to investigative reports, Gleason shot his wife twice. He shot her once in the chest and once in the head. Police found her body in the basement under the stairs.

His 17-month-old son had two gunshot wounds to his chest. He was placed in the freezer in a baby blanket with stuffed animals.
Both were murdered in the couple’s master bedroom. Gleason then shot himself while sitting on the couch.

Two living cats and dogs were found in the home.

Two suicide notes were also found. The report said that Patrick Gleason wrote both of them. He addressed the notes to his parents and her parents. Police would not reveal what the notes said.
