President Obama’s Full Speech on the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington

800px-Obama_Chesh_1WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Barack Obama and several other speakers commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech on the National Mall on Wednesday. 

“Because they kept marching, America changed. Because they marched, the civil rights law was passed. Because they marched, a voting rights law was signed,” Obama said. “Because they marched, city councils changed and state legislatures changed and Congress changed and, yes, eventually, the White House changed.”

On Aug. 28, 1963, King and roughly 250,000 others took part in the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, a key moment in the American Civil Rights Movement.
