HOLLAND, Mich.- For more than 100 years the Freshmen and Sophomores at Hope College have dug into the trenches to try to beat each other at tug-of-war. The annual pull is held on the banks of the Black River.

Each team has 20 pullers and 20 morale boosters. The longest pull was back in 1977 when it lasted 3 hours and 51 minutes. The shortest pull was in 1956 coming in at only 2 minutes and 40 seconds.
