GVSU Wrecking Ball Removed Prompts Student ProtestALLENDALE, Mich. — Grand Valley State University plans on reinstalling the pendulum sculpture recently dubbed by several students as the “Wrecking Ball” after Miley Cyrus’ hit song.

According to university officials, they won’t be the only ones deciding where the sculpture- “Untitled” by Dale Eldred – will be placed.  Engineering students are also helping decide what to do with it after it undergoes repairs.

The sculpture was removed last week due in part to damage from students riding on it to parody Miley Cyrus’ music video.  Before that, it had been a fixture outside the Seymour and Esther Padnos Hall of Science since 1995.  Students started a campaign called “Reinstall the Ball,” demanding that the university put it back there.

No decision has been made on the sculpture’s new location.  In fact, university officials say that the damaged cable previously holding it up hasn’t even been repaired yet.
