meteorWEST MICHIGAN — For the second time in less than a week people around the Midwest have reported seeing a fireball in the sky. The latest reports occurred shortly after 11:30pm Friday as many reported seeing a fireball  fall against the clear night sky. Just under 300 reports have come in from around ten states including many from right here in West Michigan. This latest meteor path seems to have traveled directly over the Dayton, Ohio area where witnesses reported hearing a sonic boom. The meteor likely broke up shortly after. The last meteor sighting was just a day ago when over 700 reports came in from seven states shortly after 7am Thursday morning. Thursday’s meteor was slightly farther to the west with a trajectory directly over the Indianapolis area. No large meteor showers are occurring at this time however a smaller meteor shower called the Southern Taurids is nearing peak on October 8th and 9th so it is likely to see a slight increase in activity as we head into October.
