GVSU Wrecking Ball Removed Prompts Student ProtestALLENDALE, Mich. — According to the Grand Valley State University’s student newspaper, the pendulum sculpture recently dubbed the “Wrecking Ball” will be returned to campus at an undisclosed date.

The sculpture, which has been a campus fixture for more than 10 years, was removed following damage after several students rode it and made parody videos of Miley Cyrus’ music video for her pop single “Wrecking Ball.”

“We intend to reinstall the pendulum at the existing site, but will put in safety features so it’s seen as an art sculpture,” Tim Thimmesch, associate vice president for Facilities Services, told the Grand Valley Lanthorn. “We haven’t come up with any solutions yet but will be looking for those and discussing them.”
