KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A 54-year-old woman was found dead in her home Sunday afternoon, and her death is being treated as a homicide, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.

Few details have been released, but the woman’s body was discovered at a home on the 1400 block of Church Street. Police responded around 4 p.m.

Aaliyah Buchanan said she saw the police presence, along with a woman leaving the home who was yelling frantically.

“Someone had killed her mother,” Aaliyah Buchanan, a witness recalled.

Neighbors said young kids were also leaving the home. According to witnesses, the woman indicated that a man had stabbed her mother multiple times.

Police said a 28-year-old from Benton Harbor was the last person seen with the woman. That person was located a short time later, and they are being questioned by investigators.

A neighbor told FOX 17 that the people who live in the home have resided there for about four months. About a month ago, they learned that the home had been broken into.

Sunday’s homicide has given Buchanan a new perspective on life. “God is the answer. We need to pray more and get right and know that tomorrow is not promised,” she said.

Why does your story have to be labeled woman killed on "NORTHSIDE!" You guys all label the Northside like it's a bad thing, The man that murdered her was from Benton Harbor not the Northside. I am sick of our side getting a bad rap when most crimes committed over here are from out of towners. I fell for the family but you reporters need to quit profiling.
