BOSTON, Mass. — Despite leading the American League in earned run average during the regular season, Detroit Tigers pitcher Anibal Sanchez had a start to forget in Game 3 of the American League Divisional Series against the Oakland Athletics — giving up three home runs in just 4.1 innings.

His second postseason start was an improvement — and that’s an understatement.

Sanchez threw six no-hit innings — striking out 12 — and four Tigers relievers combined for just one hit and another five strikeouts to give Detroit a 1-0 win over the Boston Red Sox in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series in Boston on Saturday night.

Jhonny Peralta’s RBI single in the sixth off Jon Lester provided the lone run for either side.

Max Scherzer will take the hill in Game 2 for Detroit. Boston will counter with Clay Buchholz.

Coverage of Game 2 will start at 8:00 p.m. EST only on FOX 17.
