Downtown Grand Rapids Assault Victim Identifed

Greg Barker PicGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — FOX 17 has confirmed that Greg Barker, 21, died Saturday, after he was a victim of an assault near the B.O.B. on the sidewalk and in the parking lot.

Barker attended Central Michigan University at one time and was a graduate of Forest Hills Central High School.

His family declined comment to FOX 17.

Grand Rapids Police Officers were called to the B.O.B. parking lot because of the fight, but everyone was gone when they got there.

Witnesses say there was a verbal fight on the sidewalk north of the B.O.B. where punches were thrown and a group of people chased Barker into the parking lot just north of the bar. Security guards helped break up the fight and everyone left.

Greg Gilmore the owner of The B.O.B. issued this statement to FOX 17, “That’s correct, we had two party buses show up at different times after midnight, most of the groups were denied entry and they are the ones that caused the problems.  Our security only got involved when they saw one of the groups ganging up on people over by the lot by Fridays.”

Then around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, officers were called to Barker’s house in Cascade Township where he was having medical issues. Barker was taken to the hospital where he later died.

The Grand Rapids Police Department says that Barker died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen that caused internal bleeding.

If you have any information on this incident, you’re being asked to call Grand Rapids Police at 1-616-456-3604 or Silent Observer at 1-616-774-2345.

I hope they catch each and every on e involved and give them the same punishment they hand out to anyone else just because they may be from better family's that can afford party bushes does not give them the right to beat anyone down especially a group besting 1 person .I hope they all feel real proud and their was someone on 1 of these stories on facebook talking there friend got the whole fight on a camera phone so I hope they find out who and charge them if they do not come forward with the information.

Graduated with Greg… It seems surreal.
No parent should ever be forced to bury a child.
    Prayers for his family.

    2010 forever.

And they encourage people to go downtown. It is just a dump down there with nothing but trouble. Booze, drunks, thugs and gangs. Real nice GR. If people were smart they would stay away from those holes. This should not have happened. So senseless.

No more suspect descriptions in these kinds of articles. Can’t have the public finding out most of these GR murders are committed by poor people with a darker skin tone.

I love Beer City USA! Such a “cool” city as well.

idunno the BOB stands for Bunch Of Bigots I think it was the bouncers that jumped me . They gave me an good ole boot party till unconscious. They will find a reason not too let someone in. They told my brother that his short sleeve shirt was too long. They told me no logos on pants????? No wonder the group was FIGHTING MAD. Discrimination SUCKS but if it never happens too you you would NEVER KNOW.

Bunch of bigots but you want to give them your money by going there? I think you’re full of it and so is your story.

I bet the story goes like this. Bouncer denies a bunch of drunks off a party bus acceds into the BOB. Stupidity takes over and they decide to target that white kid. I hope I am wrong, we’ll see.
