HOLLAND, Mich. — Hudsonville Ice Cream today introduced two new flavors and brought back two favorites.

Of more than 7,000 entries, Pure Michigan Double Berry Pie was declared the winner of the 2013 Pure Michigan/Hudsonville Ice Cream ice cream flavor contest.  The idea for the flavor came from Linda Ann Stewart of Taylor, Mich.  It contains homegrown Michigan blueberries and strawberries plus flaky pieces of piecrust swirled in vanilla ice cream.

The second fall release is Toasted Coconut, which features a combination of coconut-flavored ice cream dotted with chocolate-covered toasted coconut pieces.

This fall also marks the return of Pure Michigan Caramel Apple, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources-inspired 2012 Pure Michigan contest-winning flavor, and the perennial fall favorite, Pumpkin ice cream.

“We are always eager to announce our new seasonal flavors. The limited edition fall flavors help you ease into the cooler months while enjoying the fresh flavors that autumn brings,” said Hudsonville Ice Cream marketing representative Caryn Beatty. “We pride ourselves on offering Hudsonville Ice Cream fans a taste for all seasons; we consider Hudsonville the year-round ice cream.”

She said that Hudsonville Ice Cream expects Pure Michigan Caramel Apple to again be a standout. The official ice cream of the Department of Natural Resources is a lightly flavored green apple ice cream that features Michigan-grown apples with a Michigan-made caramel swirl.

Hudsonville Creamery & Ice Cream got its start in 1895 in Hudsonville, Mich., as a farmers’ cooperative that later began using its fresh milk and cream to make ice cream in 1926.   Today, many of the original flavors and recipes are still in use at the company’s production facility in Holland.

Hudsonville Creamery & Ice Cream Inc. is the largest manufacturer of branded ice cream in Michigan. Today Hudsonville is headquartered in Holland and sells ice cream to grocery stores, retailers, convenience stores, ice cream parlors and other locations in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Illinois.
