WEST MICHIGAN — (FOX 17) —  With the possibility of some snow mixing in with the rain this week, I decided to research October snows in the past.

Having snow in October is fairly uncommon but certainly not unheard of. A check of the records over the past ten years since 2003 shows that Grand Rapids has received measurable snow in October just once. On October 12, 2006, there was 2.1 inches of snow. The rest of the past ten years have either no snow or just flurries. In 2012, 2011, 2008, 2004, and 2003, there was just a trace of snow, while in 2010, 2009, 2007, and 2005, there was none.

The snowiest October was in 1967. On the night of the 26th, Grand Rapids had 8.4 inches. On average, October brings just a half inch.
