GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., — After 12 years of volunteering, the March of Dimes is recognizing Becky Berrevoets for all her efforts to help in the fight for healthy babies.

The organization, which fights to improve infant health by preventing birth defects and premature births, selected Berrevoets as the Michigan Chapter “Volunteer of the Year”.

Representatives from March of Dimes West Michigan were on hand Monday to surprise Berrevoets with the award at the Farmers Insurance campus in Grand Rapids. Berrevoets, who works in Human Resources for Farmers, has been instrumental in coordinating the company’s volunteer and fundraising efforts. Under her leadership, more than $2.4 million dollars has been raised and contributed to the March of Dimes.

“I was blessed with two very healthy children and I’ve had several other people in my life who were not as blessed,” said Berrevoets. “I just feel like I really need to give back so that they can have the same experience that I was able to have.”

Berrevoets also currently serves on the Grand Rapids Division Board and has been the Event Chair for the Grand Rapids “March for Babies” since 2007.

“To have March of Dimes honor her in this way is just a really nice recognition that tells people like Becky and all of us involved in the communities that we do important work,” Mike Cok, Farmers CEO told FOX 17 News. “Very fitting acknowledgement and reward for a very, very special person here at Farmers.”
