BoyScoutsSaluteOTSEGO, Mich–Boy scouts from Holland and Otsego returned Sunday from duties at the christening of the USS Gerald R Ford. The ceremony took place Saturday in Newport News,  Virginia.

The scouts held American flags forming a tunnel for distinguished guests as they arrived at the event. The USS Gerald R Ford is a new state of the art navy warship that will go into service in 2016.

For the boys and their leaders it is a trip they will remember for a lifetime. Joe Witt is a member of Troop 98 and says the long bus ride was worth it. “It was a once in a lifetime deal it was cool I mean we got to hold the flags when the people walked through to show respect for Mr Ford,“ says Witt.

Fellow scout  Noah Hardesty had this to say about being at such a historic event.  “We got up at 4 o’clock in the morning or so and then we went to the shipyard and we got to see a lot of spare parts and we got to see the aircraft carrier and I just thought it was really cool because we got to be a part of history.”
