GVSU Wrecking Ball Removed Prompts Student ProtestALLENDALE, Mich. — The pendulum sculpture recently dubbed “The GVSU Wrecking Ball” will be reinstalled Tuesday, according to a university press release.

The sculpture was removed Sept. 16 because of “safety concerns,” which included several students riding it to recreate Miley Cyrus’ music video for “Wrecking Ball.”  Now that a frayed cable has been replaced, it will be reinstalled outside the Padnos Hall of Science.

University officials also say that the sculpture will also have restrictions to prevent people from riding it.

“The new installation will be representative of a scientific art exhibit and include a reconstructed site that limits access and compliments the original intent of the sculpture,” said Tim Thimmesch, associate vice president for Facilities Services.
