GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A strong cold front will cause temperatures to fall during the day Monday, with rain changing to snow from north to south during the daytime as well.

Light to moderate rain developed during the morning commute across West Michigan, with temperatures still holding in the upper 30s to mid 40s.  The cold front dropping southward will force readings into the mid 30s by afternoon in most locations, resulting in rain transitioning to snow showers before it moves out of the area by early evening.  Snow accumulations will generally stay around an inch or less on grassy areas through the afternoon commute.

However, wet pavement may become icy on bridges and overpasses as temperatures slip into the 20s this evening.  Some dry air will result in some clearing inland from Lake Michigan; but, lake-effect snow showers will develop during the night into Tuesday.

With winds from the north-northwest, the snow bands will  most affect locations right along U.S. 31 and vicinity.  Three inches of snow or more will be possible in parts of Berrien County into Northwest Indiana; much less will fall for areas inland toward U.S. 131 and beyond.

Lake-effect bands will diminish during the day Tuesday, but cold air will hold on into the middle of the week.  Check out updated forecasts and interactive radar on the Weather page.
