TROY, Mich. — Roughly 2,000 people showed up to an open casting call in Troy Sunday, hoping to land a role in the new Star Wars movie.

“The principle casting directors working with our director J.J. Abrams in Los Angeles have sent us out on this pretty grueling road trip,” casting representative Maryellen Aviano told The Detroit News.

Aviano and the rest of the casting team are looking to fill two major roles in the upcoming seventh film in the franchise.  They made a stop in Chicago Nov. 14 and plan on holding similar meetings in Austin and Nashville.

On Sunday, though, they met with hopefuls from noon to 5 p.m. at the Somerset Inn, 2601 W. Big Beaver Rd in Troy.
If you missed the in-person meeting, you can also submit an application online before the Dec. 3 deadline.  The Daily Tribune in Royal Oak reports that filming will begin in 2014 in the United Kingdom.

Disney recently announced that the new Star Wars movie, directed by J.J. Abrams, is scheduled for release Dec. 18, 2015.
