11-19-13 Trash to treasureGRANDVILLE, Mich. — Perhaps you’ve thrown something out with the trash, like a broken chair or table, only to turn around and see that someone is loading it into their car. What could they possibly want with that useless junk?

What they want is a new craft project. This trend is known as upcycling, something that West Michigan Artist Karin Chudy is great at doing.

Chudy has her upcycled wonders on display at Changing Thymes at two Grandville locations, 4165 Chicago Drive SW and 2900 Wilson Avenue SW. She also shares her passion for art and upcycling in a blog called, Art is Beauty.

Among Chudy’s are old suitcases turned into living room end tables.

This artist also is known to rescue and refurbish a lot of furniture to raise money for a nature center.

Whether it’s a cold, snowy day this winter, or you want to just tackle something fun with family, upcycling is a great way to save some money and still get great decor this holiday season.

Also, Changing Thymes has some great events coming up:

  • Hosting the Holidays: Nov.22&23
  • Santa Sale: Nov.29&30
  • Holiday Jewelry Event: Dec.7
  • Meet the Vendors: Dec.20&21
  • Buy Me Something: Dec.23&24

Hours: Monday-Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday Noon to 5 p.m.
