GENEVA TOWNSHIP, Mich- A dog had to be rescued from an icy pond after it fell through the ice Sunday morning.
According to Ronald Wise with the South Haven Area Emergency Services, the dog fell through the ice on 8th avenue around 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning. When the rescue team got to the scene the dog was struggling and crying out to rescuers in the water about 150 feet from the shore.
Rescuers had to break though the ice to reach the dog. When rescuers got the dog back on shore, the dog was very tired and cold. Emergency personnel wrapped the dog in thermal blankets to warm the dog back up.
The dog has been turned over to the Van Buren County Animal Control to be returned to it owner.
South Haven Area Emergency Services wants to remind everyone to stay off the ice and please keep pets away from the ice because the ice is still too weak to support animals or humans.
