WYOMING, Mich. — Wyoming police were kept busy Monday evening when pedestrians were struck in two separate incidents a hour apart. One man died.

In the fatal event, a 50-year-old Kentwood man was struck by a small pickup while he was crossing S. Division Avenue in the 3300 block. The driver, a 49-year-old Wyoming woman, told police she never saw the man. The identity of the victim, who was pronounced dead at the hospital, was withheld by police Tuesday morning.

In the second incident, two people were hit by a car around 6:30 p.m. after they stepped into traffic on 28th Street just east of US-131. A 53-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man were sent to the hospital in critical condition. The driver was a 53-year-old man from East Grand Rapids.

The eastbound lanes of 28th Street were closed for several hours for investigation. The report from the Wyoming Police Department said that complaints had been called in about two people panhandling in the area, and Michigan State Police were in the process of responding to those complaints. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the victim’s behavior. Their identities were also not made public Tuesday morning.

Anyone with information about either crash is asked to contact the Wyoming Police Department at 616-530-7300 or Silent Observer at 774-2345.
