GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — As often happens in West Michigan, even the onset of warmer air in the winter has created some issues for drivers and school administrators in parts of the area.

Temperatures still hovering in the low to mid 30s allowed back roads in areas north of I-96 to remain slippery, even though conditions had dried out overnight, and most temperatures were getting back above freezing.  The situation will be expected to improve as temperatures continue to climb and the weather remains dry Wednesday morning.

Numerous schools had closed or delayed as a result of the slick road conditions.  Click here for the complete list.

The other issue Wednesday morning was dense fog, caused by warm, moist air moving over the cold ground.  That fog will stick around until winds pick up a bit and scattered showers return Wednesday afternoon.  Visibility had dropped to one-quarter mile in Grand Rapids, Ionia, and Lansing by 6:00 A.M.
