GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A Grand Rapids man wrestled a gun away from a man who he said was trying to break into his home Tuesday night.

It happened just before midnight on Dorchester Avenue SW, in the Walnut Grove Apartment complex.

Jose Jimenez-Fuentes said he returned home after work to spend time with his girlfriend and 4-year-old daughter. But, at about 11:30 p.m., there was a knock at the door.

“He had his back turned towards the door. So, when I looked through the peephole I didn’t see him,” Jimenez-Fuentez said. “I opened the door a little bit to see who it was and that’s when he tried to force his way inside the house with a gun.”

Jose said he began to wrestle with the suspect inside the doorway of the home and that the struggle continued into the kitchen.

“I got control of the gun and I let him get up and he left out the front door,” Jose said.

Grand Rapids police tell FOX 17 they took a person into custody nearby the complex last night. However, they haven’t named him a suspect in this incident.
