MUSKEGON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Law enforcement from several agencies took 19 children on a $100 shopping spree at Meijer on Wednesday night.

Muskegon Township Police Chief Ken Sanford said he looks forward to the event every year because it’s good to spend time with the children in a positive circumstance.

Chief Sanford said that Meijer pays for the event, which has been going on for 15 years.

“Most of the time, the scenario in which the police are called is a negative aspect and the kids kind of pick up on that over the years. This way they get to see us doing something good, kind of talk to them and communicating with them and letting them know we are human beings,” said Stanford.

Teachers at local schools pick the students who take part in the yearly event.  Almost 30 officers participated this year.
