HOLLAND, Mich. — Two teenagers accused of racially-motivated property destruction in Holland will not face charges.
Holland police announced Friday that prosecutors have”insufficient evience” for the July 15 incident, where the owner of an African American art museum’s car was vandalized in the parking lot of his museum.
Gregory Lambers and Steven Boeve, both 19, were arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase following the alleged crime.
Wayne Coleman and his wife live above their museum. Coleman said he heard someone yelling the N-word and saw a man breaking the windows of his SUV in the early morning hours of July 15.
Before he called police, an officer who heard the glass shattering was already on the scene. Lambers and Boeve led them on a chase down 16th Street before crashing their vehicle near US-31.
Although they are not being charged for racially motivated destruction of property, both men were charged in July for the car chase.
Lambers was charged with fleeing and eluding and operating while intoxicated. Boeve was charged with resisting and obstructing a police officer and a parole violation.
