Twenty-year-old Steven Maine from East Lansing was arraigned Thursday and faces misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct for being within 300-feet of an open fire. Maine could face up to 90 days in jail and up to a $500 fine.

There have been 15 arrests made so far surrounding the events at Michigan State University – 12 of those arrests are MSU students.

Police say that nearly 60 fires were set throughout East Lansing and one car was overturned – a type of celebration that city officials frown upon.

“Behavior like this is unacceptable in the East Lansing-MSU community,” said George Lahanas, East Lansing City Manager. “In addition to being extremely dangerous and costly, it takes vital emergency resources away from others in need. We understand individuals’ desire to celebrate, but the events of Saturday night did nothing more than overshadow and take away from a great Spartan victory. We will work to charge the individuals involved in this incident to the fullest extent of the law.”

The East Lansing and university police have formed a task force to investigate the disturbances. They’re asking for tips in the case and are offering rewards ranging from $100-$500.

Anyone with information on these incidents should contact East Lansing police at 1-877-ELPD-TIP or via email at ELPDtips@elpolice.com.
