ALLEGAN, Mich. —Investigators with the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department questioned a teenager who made a post on Facebook claiming to know the whereabouts of a missing girl from Kalamazoo County.

Sixteen-year-old Marissa Barry of Portage was last seen at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Thursday when investigators believe she left her home in the 1300 block of E. Osterhout Avenue on foot.

In a news release from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department Friday morning, Captain Frank Baker said deputies were dispatched to a Leighton Township home of a teenager.  The teenager posted on Facebook that Barry was at his residence, said Baker.  A search was conducted, but deputies did not find anything.

“The teenager at the home who posted it on Facebook did it as a prank; therefore, wasting the time of law enforcement.  I hope the family of the missing girl did not see his post on Facebook,” Baker said.

Barry was last seen wearing turquoise pants, a Christmas style sweater, and a black Portage Central Band jacket.  Marissa is 5’4″, 130 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.

Investigators say the girl suffers from depression and anxiety disorder which requires medication that she has not been taking.

Meantime, FOX 17 confirmed Friday that a Michigan State Police helicopter was used to search for Barry.

If you’ve seen Marissa or know any information regarding her whereabouts, you’re asked to call Portage Department of Public Safety at 269-329-4567.

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Department has its own missing teenager investigation.  Deputies are looking for 16-year-oldKristy LaFountain of Martin.
