West Mich.- It’s snowed 12 out of the first 17 days of December and county road commissions have been busy.

“It`s been busy especially the last week, a lot of early days and a lot of extra hours,” Brad Lambert of the Barry County Road Commission said.

They use a variety of sand and salt combinations depending on the weather, road and air temperatures.

Tow companies have been just as busy, working through this early winter blast.

Eli Dykstra with East Beltline Towing says the last few days have been hectic and pretty much nonstop.

Dykstra says he sees one common mistake drivers make that lands them in the ditch.

“A lot of people overcorrect,” He says.

Police said speed plays a big factor in most winter crashes.  Like the overturned semi truck hauling metal pipes onI-94 in Calhoun County, Tuesday.

The driver walked away with only minor injuries but the wreckage closed down the highway for four hours.
