BAY CITY, Mich. — Anthony Bennett will plead guilty to the 2012 murder of a 4-year-old on the Isabella Reservation.

Bennet, a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Native American Tribe, will enter a guilty plea for the second-degree murder of Carnell Chamberlain, according to documents obtained Wednesday from U.S. District Court in Bay City.

He faces up to life in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Chamberlain was the son of Bennett’s then-girlfriend.  He was murdered June 21, 2012, and his body was found badly burned underneath the porch at Bennett’s home on Tomah Road.

Bennett has a history of violent crime dating back to a 2009 assault conviction.  Most recently, he assaulted a corrections officer in November.

Carnel Chamberlain’s grandmother released the following statement Tuesday night on behalf of his family:

“We the immediate family of Carnel Chamberlain were fully aware and an integral part of the whole process leading up to today’s guilty plea.  We would like to thank the FBI for their diligence in garnering an outcome that is a end to this horrific nightmare.  At this time we ask the public to please respect our privacy in this dark moment.”
