kzoopolicestockKALAMAZOO, Mich. — A 14-year-old is facing a home invasion charge after he was arrested for stealing Christmas presents.

Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were called to the 1,000 block of Sherwood Avenue on Dec. 19, on the report of someone with a handgun in the area. Officers say that the suspect stole a bag of presents after entering a covered porch at a home.

A witness told officers he saw the suspect opening a wrapped present in a driveway, and that the suspect ran off after a confrontation.

An officer from the Kalamazoo Township Police Department found the suspect on Humphrey Street, and after running off again, he was arrested as he was trying to climb the fence at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home. Officers found a replica firearm as well as the bag of presents.

The suspect was taken to the same juvenile home on the charge of home invasion and an outstanding detention order pending a review from the prosecutor’s office.

The gifts were all accounted for and returned to the family.
