CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. – More than 10,000 residents were without power in Calhoun County Sunday night – and the Sheriff’s Department says power to homes and businesses may not be restored until Friday.

The power outage is also creating a mess out on the roads where many stop lights have been out all day.

Many families also have to sit by a dark Christmas tree just days before the holiday.

It’s putting a wrench in plans for families across West Michigan, with fears Christmas dinner will spoil.

Deanne and Kent Giese put their ham in the garage in hopes of power being restored earlier than expected.

“It`s just this huge swath of freezing ice and I can just imagine it`s very difficult for consumers to get the energy back up for everybody,” Deanne says.

It comes at a tough time for the Gieses.  Kent and more than 100 others lose their jobs at Clyde Union Pumps at the end of this week.
