WEST MICHIGAN — Consumers Energy said approximately 25,000 customers remained without electrical service Friday night.

The Dec. 21 storm caused more than 399,000 outages — 22 percent of Consumers Energy’s 1.8 million electrical customers. It marked the largest Christmas-week storm in the company’s 126-year history and Consumers’ largest ice storm in more than 10 years.

“We are working through the night and believe the majority of customers affected by the ice storm will have their power restored by the end of Saturday,” said Mary Palkovich, vice president of energy deliver with Consumers Energy.

More than 3,000 field and office employees from Consumers, Michigan-based contractors and workers from 13 states and Washington, D.C., are helping with the storm restorations.
