122913windsWEST MICHIGAN — A cold front is starting to make its way into West Michigan Sunday morning and will bring with it big changes. Temperatures Saturday afternoon reached into the mid to upper 40’s helping melt and thaw West Michigan for a short period of time but a strong cold front will drop temperatures quickly today.

As of 10AM, the cold front was just making it to the Lakeshore, switching winds more west-northwesterly. Winds will increase as the front approaches and allow winds to gust near 30 miles per hour throughout the day today. As the front swings through temperatures will drop steadily into the 20’s by late afternoon and teens overnight. As temperatures fall, there is a slight chance that some areas of patchy freezing drizzle will develop in the early afternoon before cold air takes over and transitions it to light snow. Snow showers behind the front will be light today with less than an inch of accumulation expected along the Lakeshore.

Arctic air sticks around through the New Year keeping temperatures below average, with afternoon highs in the teens and overnight lows dipping into the single digits.
