LOWELL, Mich. — A chain reaction crash involving multiple vehicles has lead to a 17-year-old girl in the hospital with skull and facial fractures.

A witness tells FOX 17 that a female driver pulled to the side of the 11,000 block of 36th Street SE in Lowell because she ran out of gas.

A male motorist also pulled over to help the stranded driver. According to the witness, another vehicle came over the hill, saw both vehicles and slid into the ditch trying to avoid them. Both the driver and passenger in that vehicle were unharmed.

The witness said that he parked his truck behind the vehicle that spun into the ditch, resulting in four vehicles being parked on the side of the roadway.

A man stood at the top of the hill waiving a flashlight to warn other motorists according to the witness, but it wasn’t enough.

Alexandra Tremblay, 18, and three of her friends had just finished purchasing snacks on New Year’s Eve and were on their way home to play video games when her truck came over the hill. The witness said that Tremblay over-corrected while attempting to avoid the people and vehicles near the roadway, hit one of the trucks and then slid across the street and flipped her vehicle.

After the accident, the witness said that he helped take a 17-year-old girl out of the passenger seat and held her hand while waiting for paramedics.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Department said that she suffered skull and facial fractures. The three others in the vehicle including Tremblay suffered minor injuries.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, and the witness said he can attest no one in the vehicle showed any evidence of drinking.
