Treacherous conditions for southwest Michigan drivers.

PORTAGE, Mich.- Conditions as you head southbound on U.S. 131 to Kalamazoo County grew gradually worse throughout the trek by the FOX17 crew Sunday afternoon. Drivers were challenged with finding which snow-covered lane to call their own.

In a stretch from Allegan to Martin, one van had struck the guard rail while a northbound vehicle was way off the road and was being assisted by officers. At the U.S. 131/I-94 split, drivers were reduced to a crawl as they chose their respective highways. Many schools in the area, from Kalamazoo Christian, Comstock Public, Three Rivers, Bangor and Gobles had already cancelled Monday’s classes.

Please keep those speeds down and do not go out unless it is extremely necessary. Also, we would love to see your weather photos. You can pass them along by emailing news@fox17online.com or post them on our Facebook page, too.

FOX17 will bring you live team coverage Sunday night, not only from the Kalamazoo area, but all around West and Southwest Michigan at 10 p.m. and pick back up from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. However, you can always get your updates, 24/7, right here.
