SOUTH HAVEN, Mich.– The start of the work and school week may not be for most of West Michigan. But road crews with the South Haven Department of Public Works are in extra early and ready for a daylong battle to keep roads as clear as possible for those who have to be out.

Plow drivers say they attack every snow storm the same. It’s how effective they will be that could be the difference with this winter storm.

They cover around 27 miles of roads.

Plow drivers warn that drifts could be the worst for commuters. The area just off I-196 and Phoenix Road near Walmart could also be a problem for drivers because of open fields.

While plow drivers would like to get the roads as bare as possible, they don’t think it’ll necessarily happen with this storm due to the blowing snow and much colder temperatures, making it difficult for treatment to work. Drivers are using a mixture of sand and salt.
