GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A grandfather from Flint has disappeared after making a trip to Grand Rapids. Police said that 78-year-old Robert Farthing disappeared Wednesday afternoon.

Farthing’s family said that he suffers from depression and had recently stopped taking his medication, which they say can cause him to suffer memory loss.

Farthing’s family said that he dropped his wife off at Blodgett Hospital to visit a family member inside, and was expected to come right back, but never showed up.

“He said he was hungry, and he was going to go down the street to McDonald’s and grab a bite to eat,” said Farthing’s daughter Denise Shaheen.

Farthing’s family is spread out across the state, both in Grand Rapids and Flint, looking for any sign of the grandfather.

“We are concerned that his medications haven’t been kept up, that he might be confused or disoriented, not sure what to do or where to go,” said Farthing’s son Bob Farthing.

The family said that each tip of a possible sighting brings them hope, and they continue to follow leads on social media. On Friday, the family said they have received several tips in the Flint area.

Farthing is described as 5’11, 270 pounds, wearing a white shirt, black pants and black hat. He was driving a white 2005 Buick LaCrosse with Michigan handicap plate 5798G2.    If you have any information on his whereabouts, you are asked to call police at (616) 456-3400.

**The family is organizing a search group for Saturday. Anyone wishing to help in the search is asked to meet at Aquinas College at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. **
